ANDRITZ spunlace line started up at Quimicolor, Colombia

Following the successful commissioning by the ANDRITZ team, Quimicolor proudly inaugurated its spunlace factory on Friday, August 9, 2024, in Guarne, Colombia.

The first of its kind in the region, this state-of-the-art facility represents a major advancement in Quimicolor’s capabilities and commitment to innovation and sustainability.

With the equipment from ANDRITZ, Quimicolor has now integrated nonwoven roll production into its existing converting facilities. Covering 2,600 square meters, the new nonwoven factory is the culmination of a project that was initiated during the pandemic to address supply chain challenges, with the financing support of the French public investment bank Bpifrance.

Capable of processing both synthetic and natural fibers, the spunlace line delivered by ANDRITZ is the first ever installed in South America outside Brazil. The line features a high-speed TT card, which makes it the most productive installation on the continent with a capacity of 10,000 tons per year.

This ANDRITZ-supported project showcases Quimicolor’s successful vertical integration as a renowned converter. Additionally, it marks a significant step towards a robust sustainable development initiative by cutting down on imports of nonwoven rolls from Asia.

Based in the Medellín area, Quimicolor has been producing hygiene, skincare and household products for the Latin American market for almost two decades.

ANDRITZ to establish new service center in Brazil

International technology group ANDRITZ has initiated a project to build a state-of-the-art service center for pulp and paper mill equipment in Três Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

With this strategic investment, ANDRITZ strengthens its presence in Brazil and its support for the local pulp and paper industry.

The center will primarily serve mills in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and neighboring regions, offering a full range of services, including repairs, rebuilds, equipment upgrades, and maintenance. It will also serve as a manufacturing and distribution center, improving the availability of strategic parts.

The center will be built on a 30,000 m² site, with 6,000 m² used for the workshop and 6,000 m² reserved for environmental preservation. Construction will begin in December 2024, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. About 50 direct and 150 indirect jobs will be created during the construction phase. Once fully operational, the center is expected to provide more than 130 permanent jobs.

In line with ANDRITZ’s commitment to sustainability, 20% of the site will be preserved as green space. The facility will also be equipped with photovoltaic panels for renewable energy generation and cisterns for rainwater and process water collection to support efficient use of resources.

Future plans include expanding the center’s capacity to further strengthen ANDRITZ’s position in the region and support its long-term growth strategy.
