Toscotec has started up a high efficiency TT SteamBooster steam generation system at Cartiera Confalone’s mill in Montoro, Italy. The new TT SteamBooster was implemented into the hood and steam systems of their AHEAD 2.2 tissue line supplied by Toscotec on a turnkey basis in 2021.
A profitable technological upgrade
Toscotec’s TT SteamBooster recovers the heat present in the hoods exhaust air and harnesses it to generate high pressure steam from the condensate coming from the Steel Yankee Dryer. The generated steam is injected into the steam line that runs from the boiler to the Yankee and is used directly to feed the Yankee. TT SteamBooster’s standalone control system, which can operate independently on any tissue making line, has also been completely integrated into the tissue machine’s DCS to ensure effortless operations.
Targets achieved: up to 25% Energy Savings & carbon emission reduction
TT SteamBooster has reduced the boiler’s gas consumption by up to 25%, also ensuring a reduction of the mill’s carbon emissions. Custom-designed based on Cartiera Confalone’s production specifications, the steam generation system has been stably producing high quality steam for more than four months and has exceeded the performances of the project. It doesn’t require regulation according to the machine’s production, and its performance is monitored remotely by Toscotec.
The system is reliable and compact, with very low impact on the building’s load capacity, which also makes it very easy to install in existing plants.
In terms of operating costs, TT SteamBooster calls for both minimal electricity consumption and very easy maintenance, due to the fact that after activation it doesn’t need further interventions.
Gaetano Confalone, Sole Director of Cartiera Confalone, says, “Toscotec has been our trusted partner in turnkey supply projects for our tissue line. This easy upgrade allows us to further increase the energy efficiency of our production and continue to reduce our carbon footprint.”
Marco Puntoni, Energy Products Specialist at Toscotec, says, “Decarbonization, energy efficiency improvements, and the reduction of operating costs are key targets for the tissue market. At a time when regulations and energy costs are setting in motion a profound transformation in our industry, Toscotec is providing smart solutions to enable tissue producers to achieve these critical targets. We appreciated Cartiera Confalone’s continuous cooperation throughout the project and we are glad to see that they are reaping the benefits for this new upgrade.”
