Hamburger Containerboard, a producer of high-quality corrugated case material products for customers throughout Europe, has significantly reduced cleaning efforts during shutdowns and increased efficiency thanks to Voith’s new thermal protection coating TerraDry PN on PM 4.
Part of Austrian Prinzhorn Holding, Hamburger Containerboard produces testliner on the PM 4 at its site in Pitten, Austria, for further processing into sustainable packaging materials. Due to the contamination and occupancy tendency on the chrome-plated paper guide roll caused by stickies at the lead out of the after drying section, the production personnel were faced with increased cleaning efforts during each shutdown. By replacing the steel roll with the new dirt-repellent roll cover TerraDry PN, the producer of advanced recycled containerboard reports reduced cleaning efforts and significantly increased efficiency.
Successfully installed on schedule in 2019, the paper guide roll with TerraDry PN offers the customer the highest level of dirt repellency. The coating optimally matches the environmental conditions, protects against corrosion and is characterized by excellent temperature resistance. Thanks to these high-quality standards and Voith´s know-how, Hamburger Containerboard not only maintains an efficient paper production in daily operations but also avoids safety risks resulting from the contaminated paper dryer guide roll at the end of the dryer section.
After more than two years in operation, Markus Ungersböck, Head of Mechanical Maintenance at Hamburger Containerboard in Pitten, now takes stock:
“By changing from the chrome-plated steel roll to the Voith TerraDry PN paper guide roll, we are able to avoid enormous cleaning efforts. Previous rolls had to be cleaned from stickies with every shutdown. With TerraDry PN in the same position, no more cleaning is required.” He also emphasizes the long service life of the new dry application: “After more than two years, the roll still looks very good. We are convinced the TerraDry PN coating is the best solution for our requirements in this position.”
TerraDry PN provides ideal solutions for contaminated and/or corroded dryer guide rolls
To handle contaminated and/or corroded dryer guide rolls, Voith’s TerraDry PN is the ideal solution. It is a thermal coating designed with best-in-class, anti-stick properties. Its high alloyed coating protects the roll from wear and corrosion, and the formulated polymer surface coating provides a very effective anti-stick layer. The application is suitable for all undoctored guide rolls in the dryer section adjacent to cleaning devices. Customers can also rely on Voith’s expertise in the fast and uncomplicated installation process.
