Oftringen (Switzerland), April 6, 2022. Omya and Asia Symbol International Pte Ltd. today announced a joint investment to manufacture all GCC and PCC requirements for Asia Symbol’s uncoated fine paper machines in Jiangmen, Guangdong in the People’s Republic of China.
Under the existing partnership, named Asia Symbol (Guangdong) Omya Minerals Co. Ltd, which has been successfully operated for about 10 years, Omya and Asia Symbol International Pte Ltd. agree to extend a new facility for the production of Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) and Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) on the site of Asia Symbol (Guangdong)’s paper mill in the Xinhui district of Jiangmen City in Guangdong province.
The GCC and PCC plant extension is planned to start up in first half of 2022 with an additional production capacity of 150,000 dry metric tons per year. With the existing GCC and PCC production facility already located on the same site, the company will be able to supply 420,000 metric tons best filler combination to Asia Symbol’s Guangdong PM11, PM12 & PM13.
GCC and PCC are essential raw materials for paper manufacturing, which can improve key paper properties such as bulk, opacity, whiteness, smoothness, gloss, printability, etc. and reduce the total production cost. Omya secured a competitive bid where Asia Symbol assessed items such as product quality, cost, technical capability and technical service.
