Metsä Fibre to join maintenance operations to its own organisation

Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, will take over the maintenance operations of its production units as part of its own organisation. At present, the maintenance of the company’s pulp mills and the Rauma sawmill has been outsourced to the maintenance company Oy Botnia Mill Service Ab, which is jointly owned by Metsä Fibre Oy and Caverion Oyj. On 16 May 2022, Metsä Fibre and Caverion signed an agreement on the transfer of business for the maintenance operations to Metsä Fibre, and the transfer is scheduled to take place on 31 December 2022.

Related to the arrangement, Botnia Mill Service personnel who work at Metsä Fibre’s pulp mills, the Rauma sawmill, and administration and support functions (approximately 350 people in total) will transfer to the service of Metsä Fibre starting from 1 January 2023 through a transfer of business. The change will not have an effect on the Design & Advisory employees at Botnia Mill Service’s sites in Oulu, Rovaniemi, Kuopio, Tampere and Vantaa (approximately 40 people). They will continue working for their current employer. In connection with the change, Metsä Fibre will sell its Botnia Mill Service shares to Caverion.

“Maintenance is an important part of Metsä Fibre’s industrial efficiency and the quality of our products and services. By integrating maintenance operations to the company’s own organisation, we will strengthen the unified operating model for maintenance at Pulp and Sawn Timber Industry and enhance the use of resources in maintenance and process operation. This arrangement will also enable common operating models and synergies at Metsä Group level,” says Metsä Fibre’s CEO Ismo Nousiainen.
