Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Porkert is elected as new Chairman of VPM e.V. the long-serving board member and CEO of ECOFARIO takes over leadership of the biggest German Alumni Association for Paper, Pulp and Packaging Engineers. Focusing on innovation, collaboration and future-oriented development.
At this year’s annual general meeting of the Vereinigter Papierfachverband München e.V. (VPM), Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Porkert, CEO of ECOFARIO was unanimously elected as the new Chairman of the Association. Having served on the board for six years – four of them as Treasurer and two as Deputy Chairman – Dr. Porkert now takes over the leadership of one of Germany’s most established professional networks in the pulp and paper industry.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Porkert emphasized both the challenges and opportunities currently facing the industry.
“Sustainability, energy, skilled workforce and digitalization – these are the key issues that will shape our sector,” he said. “But precisely here lies our strength as VPM: building bridges between academia and industry, between generations and ideas.”
Under his chairmanship, the VPM aims to further strengthen its role as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. Dr. Porkert highlighted the Association’s mission to connect young professionals with experienced industry leaders and to foster open dialogue on innovation and technology.
“If we maintain our cohesion, openness and willingness to shape the future, the VPM can be more than a network – it can be a movement that creates progress,” he added.
Founded more than 65 years ago, VPM e.V. brings together engineers, scientists, and professionals from across the German paper and fiber industry. The association maintains close ties with its alma mater, Munich University of Applied Sciences, as well as with other pulp and paper organizations such as ADP Darmstadt, APV Dresden, ZellCheming e.V., and the German Employers’ Association of the Paper Industry (Die Papierindustrie e.V.). It plays a vital role in connecting students with industry partners, supporting research, and promoting sustainable paper production.
Dr. Porkert’s election underscores his long-standing commitment to the industry and his dedication to promoting cross-sector collaboration. With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, he now leads VPM into its next chapter — united by the guiding principle of “working together with heart, mind, and a strong sense of community.”
